Vajont is a municipality that has unusual characteristics in Italy due to its appearance and urban character. This territory was born after the tragedy of the Vajont, in fact the majority of evacuees were settled and housed here, a couple of kilometers from Maniago. This area was known as the “Empire Woodland Area”, an agricultural area of the Maniago area, and the name of the municipality was chosen in memory of the valley and the Vajont disaster. This village is unique in history, a village born from the speed of reorganizing and rebuilding a mountain population that from one day to the next found itself without a home.

Location

Vajont is located 20 km away from Pordenone and 51 km from Udine, at the entrance of Maniago and close to Monte Jôuf, Monte Fara and Monte San Lorenzo. The locals are called “vajontini or vajontesi”. Vajont is one of the smallest municipalities in Italy for Km2, it is completely flat and is located very close to the river Cellina, this area is also part of the “Magredi del Cellina.”
